The Greene County softball team entered Thursday’s contest against the Gilbert Tigers with a four-game winning streak in hand.
The Rams left with an 11-1 loss and had just two hits all game — singles from Kyla Beyers and Tieryn Tucker.
Emma Hoyle took the loss for the Rams, giving up 13 hits and eight earned runs to a Tigers offense that was firing on all cylinders. Greene County is 8-16 on the season with a 5-8 record in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
Up next for the Rams is a trip to play Saydel Friday night.
The Rams also found out their substate region assignment on Thursday, where they will be in Class 3A Region Five. They’ll play West Marshall (now 13-12) July 10 at 7 pm in State Center in the opening round.
Other teams in the region include Mount Vernon, Nevada, Roland-Story, Mid-Prairie (Wellman), Benton (Van Horne) and Solon.
The winner of Greene County-West Marshall will play the winner of Nevada and Mount Vernon for a chance at the substate final July 15.
